victoria / stones of the yarra valley
Set out in Coldstream, Stones of the Yarra Valley is widely considered one of the most sought-after wedding venues in the whole of Victoria. Built specifically for all-in-one regional celebrations, the 200-acre vineyard estate centers around its famous chapel, a dedicated outdoor canopy space at The Dairy, and two separate reception venues—The Barn and The Stables, all connected by short walking paths.
From my perspective as a wedding photographer, what makes Stones stand out is how effortlessly a wedding day flows here. Having prep rooms, ceremony spaces, and receptions all within a two-minute walk means we never waste time packing up gear or driving between locations. The mix of open vineyard rows, mature oak trees, and stone outbuildings gives us clean, natural backdrops for portraits right outside the reception doors.
Stones sits roughly 60 minutes east of Melbourne in Coldstream, right along the Maroondah Highway. As a Melbourne wedding photographer, I love shooting here because it gives couples and traveling guests a genuine country escape without a brutal drive. It’s a very easy region for guests to navigate, packed with great cellar doors, coffee spots, and places to stay if they’re turning your wedding into a weekend away. View my wedding portfolio →.
GUEST CAPACITY & LAYOUT: The Barn hosts 60 to 200 seated guests for larger receptions. For smaller, more intimate weddings, The Stables accommodates 40 to 63 seated guests.
GASTRONOMY & DRINK: High-end in-house food and beverage packages, offering alternate drop or shared family-style (La Famiglia) dining paired with estate wines.
EXCLUSIVE BUYOUT & TERMS: Booking secures exclusive use of your chosen reception venue (The Barn or The Stables) along with private access to the surrounding grounds and Chapel.
CEREMONIES & EXPERIENCES: Indoor ceremonies take place in the famous Stones Chapel. Built with an authentic Italian aesthetic, it features high wooden ceilings, stained glass windows, and handcrafted timber pews positioned right beside the vineyard. Outdoor ceremonies run under the heritage Elm Tree overlooking the vines. Post-ceremony drinks and canapés happen at The Dairy.
ON-SITE ACCOMMODATION: The Farmhouse at Meletos (located directly next door) offers 23 boutique guest rooms (22 guest-style rooms plus the Tuscan Suite) sleeping up to 46 adults. Private prep spaces like The Day Room are also available on-site.
ACCESSIBILITY & TRAVEL: Located about 60 minutes from the Melbourne CBD and 65 km from Melbourne Airport (MEL). Easy drive on sealed roads with plenty of on-site guest parking.
The property has a distinct European influence. The iconic stone chapel, rustic courtyards, and sweeping views across the vineyard rows evoke a classic Italian estate feel, giving you a European destination aesthetic just an hour out of Melbourne.
Melbourne weather is unpredictable, but the Chapel here is a massive advantage. As your wedding photographer, it gives total peace of mind knowing we don't have to stress about rainy backup plans or last-minute marquee hires—the chapel is always ready, bathed in natural light through the stained glass, and framed by views of the surrounding vines.
Because the estate has vineyard paths, stone walls, and tree-lined walkways right next to the main spaces, we don't need to head off on a 45-minute photo excursion. We can step out during sunset, take simple, natural portraits framed by the vineyard in 15 minutes, and get you straight back to your guests.
In my experience as a wedding photographer, Stones of the Yarra Valley earns its reputation as one of Victoria's premier venues for good reason. Between the high-capacity spaces, European charm, exceptional food, and on-site lodging at Meletos, it makes for a stress-free wedding day. If you want a countryside vineyard wedding close to Melbourne that operates with real precision, it’s a venue I always look forward to working at.
I’m a wedding photographer based between Melbourne, Australia and Puglia, Italy, working across two of the most beautiful wedding seasons in the world.
During the Australian summer, you'll find me photographing weddings across Melbourne, wider Victoria, and throughout Australia. For me, the magic always comes down to a connection-first approach. I care way more about getting to know you as a real couple so you can feel completely comfortable letting your guard down around the camera. My goal is simply to blend into the background of your day, catch those unscripted, "in-between" moments, and give you a final gallery that actually captures how your wedding felt.
