Rising dramatically above a sea of ancient olive groves sits the hill-town of Ostuni. Famously known as the Città Bianca (White City), it is one of Southern Italy’s most central and practical locations. If you are planning a destination wedding in Puglia, Ostuni serves as the ideal geographical hub for your entire celebration.

Ostuni is my home every single summer. My wife and I live here for the entire summer wedding season, from late April through to September. I have shot weddings in this region for six years. My wife, though born in London to an Italian family, has visited Ostuni and Puglia since she was a child.

We live locally on the ground for half the year. Because of this, we know the town layout, local traffic patterns, and the exact logistics needed to move a wedding group smoothly. Ostuni balances old-world architecture with modern tourist amenities. It makes a highly strategic base for your guests.

Accommodation & Parking: The ZTL Reality Check

Ostuni offers a distinct advantage for your guests. The historic center contains a massive variety of boutique hotels and Airbnbs. Because of this, your guests can walk to restaurants, bars, and cafes. They will not need a taxi every evening.

However, you must give your guests a heads-up about the ZTL (Zona a Traffico Limitato).

  • No Driving Inside the Old Town: Authorities strictly ban non-resident cars from entering the historic white center.
  • The Parking Strategy: Guests staying in the old town must park in the designated public lots at the base of the hill. Parcheggio Via G. Pisanelli is a great option. From there, they walk up to their accommodation with their luggage.
  • Group Transport: Are you hosting your wedding at a nearby masseria? Coordinate a central shuttle pickup point just outside the ZTL boundary. The main Piazza della Libertà works perfectly. This ensures seamless pickups and drop-offs for your guests.

Getting Around: Why a Car is Non-Negotiable

When coordinating travel for your guests, understanding the regional transport limitations is key.

Puglia has two main airports:

  • Brindisi (BDS): The closest option. It is a 35-minute drive from Ostuni.
  • Bari (BRI): Roughly an hour away, but it offers more direct international flight routes.

A local train connects Bari to Ostuni. However, the regional public transport network is too slow and restrictive for wedding itineraries. Italy is upgrading its rail network right now. A new high-speed rail project will connect Bari to Naples in just two hours by 2028. For the time being, independent travel requires a vehicle.

My Insider Logistics Tip: Advise your guests to hire a car directly at the airport. Ostuni sits right in the center of Puglia’s most critical points of interest. From this single base, guests can easily reach nearby beach clubs. They can take simple day trips to Monopoli, Polignano a Mare, Martina Franca, Cisternino, Locorotondo, Alberobello, and Lecce without changing accommodations.

Where Your Guests Should Stay: Top Luxury Hotels in Ostuni

While you will likely host your actual wedding ceremony and reception at one of the large country masserias surrounding the city, keeping your guest accommodation centralised in town simplifies your wedding weekend logistics. The following three premier design hotels provide an exceptional stay for your guests right in Ostuni:

Paragon 700 Boutique Hotel & SPA

A meticulously restored 18th-century palazzo located just a five-minute walk from the central Piazza della Libertà. Known as the only red palazzo in the White City, it features 11 individually styled luxury rooms and suites, original frescoes, and a private walled garden with a pool, making it a perfect oasis for family or wedding party members who want to be in the center of town.

Vista Ostuni

A striking, ultra-luxury 5-star property built inside a conserved historic landmark guarding the entrance to the old city. Offering magnificent 360-degree views from its rooftop bar across the whitewashed town down to the Adriatic Sea, it is a stellar option for guests looking for high-end Mediterranean hospitality and an elevated, luxury base.

Masseria Dagilupi

For guests who want a quieter experience just on the outskirts of the town, this ancient olive oil mill has been masterfully converted into a minimalist guest house. Wrapped in a grove of millenary olive trees, its modern Italian design and panoramic views of Ostuni’s skyline make it an idyllic retreat just minutes from both the historic center and the coast.

Pro Photographer Tip: Managing the Tourist Crowds

Because Ostuni is a highly popular destination, the historic center experiences heavy foot traffic by midday. If you want a couples shoot or an engagement shoot that showcases the architecture clearly without crowds of tourists in the background, an early morning schedule is highly recommended.

Getting out around sunrise allows us to work when the streets are completely empty. It removes the stress of navigating crowds, eliminates local traffic delays, and ensures the ambient temperature is comfortable before the peak midday heat sets in.

Planning Your Ostuni Wedding: A Seamless Approach

Booking a photographer who physically lives in your destination eliminates the logistics, fees, and communication barriers usually associated with destination events.

I am a British wedding photographer born in London, but I split my year exactly in half—spending six months based in Melbourne, Australia, and six months living locally in Ostuni.

Because I am fully settled in Puglia from April to September, the process is streamlined:

  • Total Scheduling Flexibility: Because I do not have to rush back for other bookings, I am completely flexible. If you want to shift your timeline, add an extra event, or capture a pre-wedding welcome dinner, I am right there on the ground with you.
  • Zero Travel Expenses: Since I am already living locally in Ostuni for the summer season, you do not need to cover long-haul flights, accommodation blocks, or overseas car rentals for your photography team.
  • Six Years of Local Knowledge: Backed by my six years of local shooting experience and my wife’s lifelong family connection to the region, we know the exact timing, access points, and venue management teams on a first-name basis.

If you are currently booking your venue near the White City, get in touch to secure your date for the upcoming summer season.
